Johan & Kathleen Pittet, with their daughter Aurore, live in south-eastern Chad and engage in both well-drilling and language development and translation for an unreached minority people group in the country.  The process of translation is a long one, with language learning and relationship building taking center stage especially in the first years.  The need for water in the dry and arid region of the Sahel is a pressing need, with less than 30% of the population of the region having access to clean water.  Johan, a Mechanical Engineer, and Kathleen, desire that through helping meet physical needs, they can be a testimony to the Living Water and that the transforming power of God's Word will take root among the people group they serve.

PRAY
  • for good health and growth for their baby, Aurora.
  • that God would be preparing hearts to receive His word and create an excitement and joy that would cause His message to spread among the people, from house to house, as they hear.
  • for continued growth in the local languages and deep connections with Chadian friends and neighbors.  Pray that her linguistic studies can be put to good use in language development in the region.
  • that more people will join the team, including Chadian Christians who God will call to this region, and that they will be able to work well together and be a good example of unity and love.
  • that the church would not only be established among the people, but that it would spread through all the villages of this language group!

MY STORY
Chad is a fascinating country, rich in diversity and languages.  My own experience there has been diverse as well, in my first term already giving me opportunities to serve my mission as a book keeper, in addition to language and culture learning and pursuing a Master’s in translation studies.

During my first year of French studies, I was blessed to meet Johan Pittet, who over time became my fiancé and joined me on the field in Chad.  We are now married, and looking to relocate to south-eastern Chad to engage in both well-drilling and language development and translation for an unreached minority people group in the country.  The process of translation is a long one, with language learning and relationship building taking center stage especially in the first years, but I am excited to put down roots in the community and be able to share life with the people I live among as they teach me about their culture.

Since I was a little girl, God has laid a passion for the nations on my heart. He used the legacy of missionary grandparents, two years living in South Korea as a child, and a mother who would spend hours sitting on the couch with me, reading missionary biographies, to start forming his call on my life. As I grew older, I realized how crucial it is to rely on God's Word, given to us through Scripture, as our only true anchor in a world that is marked by brokenness and tragedy. There are many people groups in the world that are not able to do this because they do not have this Word available in their heart languages, and I am excited to be part of what God is doing in Chad to reveal himself and give hope to the people there.

God has guided my preparation for ministry through three years at Moody Bible Institute, where I studied Applied Linguistics. During this time, I did not yet know where I would be serving, and God used TEAM and mentors in my life to lead me to the country of Chad. I was able to spend three months there in 2017, and one of my fondest memories was sitting with a woman named Tabitha, who is not able to read, and reading Psalms to her in her own language. Seeing how deeply the words could touch her heart underscored my desire to see more people able to experience Scripture in that way.

The need for water in the dry and arid region of the Sahel is also a pressing need, with less than 30% of the population of the region having access to clean water.  Johan and I pray that through helping meet physical needs, we can be a testimony to the Living Water and that the transforming power of God's Word will take root among the people group that we will be serving--a people group that God loves!
